Book Review: Elastic Heart - Mary Catherine Gebhard

After a bad experience at college, Nami moves away to build her life back up. In the process, she is determined to bring the man to justice that hurt her. She spies on him and collects pictures and evidence to prove that he did hurt her and that he is still hurting other girls. While at the coffee shop, Nami runs into Law who follows her home and tries to be her friend. Nami is understandably leery of anyone; you never know who might be working for the man that hurt her. Constantly Law is popping up everywhere that Nami is at so she becomes suspicious. Law tries to smooth her fears but after what Nami went through she is very distrustful. Can Law show Nami that he is the good guy and does care about her or will Nami’s fears keep them from building a relationship together? I like the strong character that you find in Nami. No matter what has happened she is going to prove she is stronger and will overcome the injustice that she faced. You learn to see different aspects of Nami; she has to learn to pull herself up, to love herself, to trust someone and to open up and love another person. It is not an easy read for some as it does deal with the issue of rape from a powerful man that gets away with it time and time again. The book does give you an inside look at what happens after rape and how that even at times there can be a small amount of hope. There were some predictable moments in the book and a few spots dragged just a little bit but overall the book was well written and an enjoyable read. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a little predictable among several twists.
