Book Review: Katie: Clover Springs Mail Order Brides Book 1- Rachel Wesson
Katie and her sister Ellen left Ireland to find a better life in America with their uncle. However, it was not the life they were expecting. The aunt was very demanding and the uncle was hardly around. Katie realized that she had to get away for her and her sister. An ad for a mail order bride caught Katie’s attention so she started planning for a new life. What Katie didn’t plan on was being stuck in Clover Springs, Colorado for several days with no money after a train robbery gone wrong. Being raised with manners Katie made the best of the situation for herself and her sister and helped out at the boarding house when the owner became ill. Daniel wanted to purchase the general store in town however the only way the bank will loan him the money is if he marries in a month. With no prospects in sight, Daniel didn’t know what he was going to do. On the way home Daniel spotted Katie on the train and became protective of her during the robbery. Daniel suggested her to stay in town at his mom’s boarding house. What Daniel didn’t plan on was having feelings for Katie while she was promised to another. Will Katie marry her intended or give her and Daniel a chance or will she keep her contract? Typically mail order bride stories rush into sending letters, getting married and instantly fall in love. That was not the case in this book. I loved how there was background with the girls and what had fallen on their family. You were able to learn why Katie felt that she needed to answer and ad and marry a stranger. It was a sweet love story that showed how the feelings developed for the main characters. I would love to see more mail order bride series wrote similar to this one – more history and story and not so rushed. The book captivated me from the beginning and kept my attention all the way to the end. It was a sweet romantic read with just a little danger mixed in. I can’t wait to read more by this author as she definitely takes the mail order bride books to the right level.
