It's 1870, California, and in this series love flourishes in the simple town of Goldrush when three fraught sisters flee New York desperate to start new lives. She's EXCITED and absolutely POSITIVE he's the one for her. But there's a problem . . . . . Averill Archer hates liars and drinkers! What will happen if her future husband - Jacob Blair is both a liar and a drinker? Jacob can't read or write and doesn't believe he can ever learn. Jacob Blair has always been impulsive and hot-headed. His main answer to problems is a bottle of booze. Will Averill's discovery about Jacob's lies and deceit over the letters that captured her heart and his pig-headedness be the end of budding young love? Can Averill find a way to break through Jacob's fears so he can believe in himself?

My Thoughts:

After her father left a gambling debt that one of his daughters was to marry the collector of the debt, Averill’s oldest sister Adeline came up with a plan to sneak them out. Adeline had found a mail order bride advertisement and decided it was the out the family needed. The last part of Adeline’s scheme was to sneak her sister Averill and her mother out.

Averill was to marry the brother of her oldest sister’s husband. Averill doesn’t like any man that drinks while her soon-to-be husband uses alcohol to dissolve his problems – that is until he became sheriff. Now that he has met Averill, he vows to protect her from anything and any other man. When the debt collector came to town wanting to settle her father’s debt, Averill and Jacob get together with the family to come up with a solution.

This is a novella of a typical mail order bride. It was a good read if you like a good love story. It was an enjoyable quick read and I liked how their mother got her happy ending as well.
