Book Review: The Goodbye Girl (Red Market Series, Volume 2) - Mary E Palmerin and Ashleigh Giannocca

Synopsis:

The Red Market is where every pound of flesh has a price tag tacked onto it. It is a place where money can buy you everything, even a heart. Caesar has fallen and a new boss, Mateo, has risen; but he has lost his Lettie Doll and he doesn't know where to find her. She stole his soul and now he must find someone to replace her. Just like her love, his new power is an illusion. The real force behind the Red Market is about to show her cards and no one wants to play her game. Mateo and Lettie will both have to fight to find their love, but sometimes it is only found in death. You cannot go through life unnoticed by demise when you play with it every day. Sooner or later, it catches up with you and you lose. **Graphic content warning. Taboo, violent themes prevalent throughout. Reader discretion is highly advised.***

My Thoughts:

The Goodbye Girl is the second book in the Red Market series. If you have not read The Goodbye Man then I recommend to download it and read it first. Take extreme warning to the disclosures given. It is gruesome and will make you cringe. The book is dark and disturbing – a complete mind fuck.

While Cesar was at his mother’s home recuperating, Lettie was in the care of Mateo. However, Lettie was captured by an evil man that wanted to hunt down Cesar and make him pay. Cesar, of course, has his own issues but seems to be the sanest one of them all. Mateo is sick. He needs psychiatric help although I don’t think that would ever help him. He is one f***ed up individual. He gets “off” and finds himself in love with girls and boys that are cold, dead and living by machines alone. Lettie came from a bad home life, saw things she shouldn’t have and yet just wants someone to love her. Love the only way that she knows how. Ramira, Cesar’s mom, is one screwed up bi**h. I CRINGED every time that she used her cane on Cesar. OMG! I would love to see more about why Ramira was so deranged and brutal. I can only guess that growing up she had to have gone through torture or worse. She is seriously messed up.

Ashleigh and Mary have kept true to their writing. The book is a total mind f**k, meaning that in a good way. I loved the book – the whole set in fact. They write books that are taboo, that are subjects that most will not approach. After reading the book, you will think there is no way that someone can make this up and write it. When in fact, this stuff happens in everyday life to someone that you probably do not even know. There are these type of sick people in the world that do the sick things that no one wants to speak of.

There are twists throughout the book that you don’t expect. I didn’t see the end coming until Mateo met an unfortunate incident. I loved the way they wrote the story and concluded the serious. If you can handle the dark, disturbing, brutal stories, then you will love this book like I do. Another great job by Ashleigh and Mary! <3 <3 <3
