Book Review: My Secret Submission - JM Witt
Synopsis:
Meredith Nichols. I’m the epitome of a good wife and a good mom. I’m President of the PTA, I volunteer in my children’s classrooms, and I moonlight as a freelance editor for romance authors. No one suspects what secret desires lurk below the surface, except my husband. I’ve openly tried to persuade him to join me in my fantasies, but he’s refused over and over again. Then, I met Gregor Thompson. Our worlds collided one fateful day and there was no turning back. He’s a mystery, intriguing, dominant, and has the same struggles at home that I do. He’s opened my mind to the possibility that my fantasies can indeed be met and that he’s the man to mentor me. He’s infiltrated my brain and seems to know my wants and needs before I express them. It’s time to be who I was meant to be, get what I want, what I need, and forget what society thinks. I’m going to let Gregor take me on a journey of self-discovery to places most are unwilling to go. We all have a public life, a private life, and a secret life… He would be mine. He was my safe place, my secret escape. He was my Sir. He was My Secret Submission.
My Thoughts:
Meredith was caught in a marriage with children that was missing passion, communication and sex. Meredith needed more than the vanilla sex. She needed someone to support her emotionally and give her what she needed. So, she turned to online to find that someone. Little did she know that she would meet that someone who happened to live near her and be involved in the PTA (just like her) at the same school as her kids go to.
Gregor had a unhappy marriage in which his wife was not giving him what he wanted sexually. Like Meredith, Gregor turned to online to satisfy the lack of desire and sexual activity that he was needing in his relationship. After several emails back and forth, Meredith and Gregor meet up to get to know each other. The spankings that Meredith craved began.
From the very beginning the story seemed to drag, you felt like you had gotten quite far only to look down and see you were barely in the book. I got to about 30% of the book and had to do a lot of skipping through pages. It seemed redundant on the emails back and forth. It was never ending, same thing over and over just different words. I could not connect with the cheating couple at all. I have read many books where one or the other or both spouses were cheating on each other. I am not sure what it was but I just couldn’t do the cheating in this book. It was deceiving and wrong and in a way felt like it was made out that it is okay to cheat. I had a hard time looking past this issue. (Again, I have read many books on cheating and although I do not agree that cheating is right, I have not ever had a problem reading it).
The story has many subjects that are not the normal however they do occur in the real world. A marriage at a young age mixed in with children and usually the couple takes their relationship to the the back burner and the kids are the focus and center of the family. The lack of communication in marriages every day happens. Life happens.
For me, I just couldn’t get into the book as it seemed to move very slow and dragged on and on. If you can’t get past cheating couples and some BDSM thrown in, then this is definitely not the book for you. Unfortunately, I had to skip through several pages and just couldn’t connect with the people or get into the book enough to read it all the way through.
