Book Review: The Lone Stranger (Mail Order Brides of Hickory Stick Book 5) - Patricia PacJac Carroll
Synopsis:
Prudence, desperate to protect her troubled young son, risks everything to go west. After all, it's not easy for an eight-year-old boy to be saddled with a twenty-dollar name, glasses, red hair. And no father.
Herman is proud of his store. His success a tribute to his motto ~ avoid risk and settle for the sure thing. But when Prudence comes into his life, he may just have to set his motto aside.
My Thoughts:
I thought this book was another good sweet read from this author. Each story in this series has been unique. It made you smile at the happy moments yet other moments you wanted to smack Jack for being so worthless and using his son. I enjoyed seeing the inner battle that Herman had going on and on the other side he was so gentle and sweet and knew just what to do to help Prudence and Percy. Even though Jack was a bad guy, it was spun into the story and added to the dynamics while showing that caring hand can turn a person around. I thought the scene on the mountain with Herman and Percy was a blessing for both. It showed the caring side of Herman and he was able to get through to Percy and set him on a good path instead of acting out. A very touching story that shows all people deserve happiness and it will find you when least expect it especially if you open your eyes and heart for it.
I can’t wait to read more from this author and see what happens with the rest of the Hickory Stick characters.
