Book Review: Filthy Beast (Filthy Fairy Tales Book 1) - Vanessa Booke

Synopsis:

Olivia thought meeting her favorite author would be a fairy tale come true. Declan Hart was supposed to be what dreams were made of—insanely handsome, wealthy, and a man who could make her melt with the stroke of a keyboard. But Declan isn’t the man Olivia thought he was. While most authors would kill to have his success, the envy ends there. Declan Hart is broken. Scarred. A ghost of the man he once was. Olivia Evans is the last person he wants to let in, but time is ticking, and Declan only has so long before he runs out of it. One book could change his fortune, but this woman could change his life

My Thoughts:

Superb! Amazing! Incredible! Fantastic!

You feel bad for the ways of bad boy Declan however one incident changes his life. He doesn’t do well with the changes in fact he becomes a recluse. When Oliva is sent to help him or lose her job, she didn’t expect to fall for Declan. You will smile and cheer Olivia on as her determination and strength try to win Declan over. What she didn’t know is that Declan had to fight his own inner battles. Just when things were going great, things of course had to take a turn. I felt for Oliva having to cope with her dad as this is one of the hardest things that you have to handle. After having a grandfather and grandmother pass away with Alzheimer’s and dementia, I could connect with the feelings that Oliva felt and the struggles she went through. You had to feel for the unfortunate turn of events for Declan yet you get a glimpse of the man that he was inside. The side that most people never got to see. The way that Declan interacts with the boy from the plane was touching. It made you smile and you remember there are still good people out there that care for others and not just themselves.

This book left me wanting more. I absolutely loved it! It has a great unique plot, characters that you connect with and love, and smooth flowing writing. I loved how the book changed from Oliva’s POV to Declan’s POV. You really could see what each was thinking and how they felt. It added to the story and really helped you connect with the characters.

The story loosely follows the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. It has the same message as B&B but it is its own story. It does not feel like a fairy tale when reading. You will read things and think “oh that is similar to B&B” yet it is different. I loved how Vanessa incorporated the B&B into the story smoothly while creating a whole new story. I liked how StoneHaven publishing was weaved into the story which connected her series.

If you have read any of Vanessa’s books you will not be disappointed in this one. If you have not read any of her books, get started with this one. It is so good that you will be hooked and want to grab all the rest of her books. I highly recommend this book.
