Book: Cooking with The Dead (A Millerfield Village Cozy Murder Mysteries Series, Book 2)

Author: Carrie Marsh

My Rating: ★★★★★

Synopsis:

Laura Howcroft has already solved one murder investigation, but when she contracts a chef to work at the Woodend Cottage Hotel, she never considers that it might cost him his life. A day later he’s found murdered by his own pastry cloth, and Laura’s first thought is that a rival baker has found a way to get a leg up on the area’s competition for an upcoming pastry challenge. Still her biggest supporter, Monty the cat also joins Laura in this second crime-solving adventure in Millerfield Village, with some help from some two-legged friends this time. However, there’s a killer on the loose, and this one is targeting more than just area pastry chefs. Flaky franchisers and crooked chefs are the least of her worries when mysterious apparitions begin to appear, and Laura soon discovers that this crime will need her top skills and focus in order to catch the culprit. This is a case involving more than missing crumpets…and it could cost her life! Will Laura find the killer before the killer tracks her down and silences her for good?

My Thoughts:

This story has a lot of suspense and surprises that will keep you guessing throughout. Ms. Marsh does a great job of keeping the mystery while spinning a tale of romance using some humor. The story has an interesting plot that will keep you engaged from beginning to end. This book will have you laughing while wondering who is the killer. There are quirky characters, and a cat of course, that create an interesting cast to story.

The story is as the title states – a cozy mystery – it is not a strong suspenseful high dynamic book. It is a light read with some mystery and suspense with a touch of light romance throughout. This is a good change of pace book if you normally read a heavier or darker read. I enjoyed the change as sometimes you just need to read a good quick suspense with some humor that you do not have to put a ton of thought into.

Overall this book was a unique and fun book. This was the second cozy mystery that I have read and the second book by Carrie Marsh that I had the pleasure to read. If you want a book that is a light read with some mystery, then this is the book for you.
